The Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) has announced a price increase for canned tuna.
The company stated that the adjustment was made due to rising production costs, driven by global market changes and an increase in fuel prices.
MIFCO noted that prior to March, fuel was purchased at MVR 11.57 per litre. This has now increased to MVR 14.32 per litre.
Following the price revision, a can of tuna in brine will now be sold at MVR 18.50, marking an increase of MVR 1 from the previous price. A case of canned tuna in brine has also been priced at MVR 800.
Despite the increase in production costs, MIFCO stated that efforts are being made to minimise the impact on consumers as much as possible.
