The People’s Majlis will resume sittings from next Monday, the Majlis Secretariat has announced.

The last sitting of the 20th People’s Majlis was held on March 8.

The Secretariat stated that sessions will recommence on Monday next week, following a pause in sittings.

Under the Majlis regulations, the first session of the year runs from the first day of February until May 15.

This year, sittings began on February 5. Since then, sessions have been held on February 10, 11 and 17, as well as on March 8. A sitting was also held during the month of Ramadan, while committee meetings continued intermittently.

With sittings set to resume, several key reforms under President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s agenda are expected to be submitted to the Majlis. These include proposed changes to the composition of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) and amendments to maintain the current number of Members of Parliament.
