Minister of Economic Development and Trade Mohamed Saeed has stated that the Government has secured four additional markets to supply cement to the Maldives, as part of efforts to address ongoing supply challenges.

The Minister stated this at press briefing by the Special Cabinet Committee on Middle East tensions.

Minister Saeed said the Government has undertaken extensive efforts through the committee to resolve issues related to the availability of cement in the local market, noting that significant progress has been achieved.

He added that cement continues to be imported through existing markets with the involvement of the State Trading Organization, while contingency measures have also been put in place to ensure uninterrupted supply.

The initiative was carried out in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with the primary objective of ensuring that materials required for the construction sector remain consistently available without disruption.

He further noted that the Government is also working to ensure the availability of other construction-related materials, in addition to cement.
