The Committee assured that maintaining stable gas and fuel price remain a priority

The Special Cabinet Committee on Middle East tensions has stated that the Government’s priority is to ensure the stable supply of fuel and cooking gas, while minimising the impact of global market disruptions on the public.

The Committee made the remarks during a press briefing held on Tuesday to provide updates on measures being taken to address challenges arising from ongoing tensions in the Middle East.

Speaking at the briefing, Minister of Tourism and Environment Thoriq Ibrahim said global oil prices have risen to record levels due to the conflict, with prices continuing to increase daily.

Despite these developments, he emphasised that the Government is taking steps to reduce the burden on Maldivian citizens. He confirmed that there are no plans to increase electricity tariffs, and no discussions are underway to revise existing tariff rates.

Minister of Economic Development and Trade Mohamed Saeed said measures are also being implemented to ensure the uninterrupted availability of cooking gas.

He reaffirmed that maintaining stable gas prices remains a key objective of the Government, adding that a new shipment of cooking gas is expected to arrive tonight.

The Minister further noted that the Government, in collaboration with the State Trading Organization and private sector partners, is working to prevent any increase in gas prices.

“We will not allow any opportunity for gas prices to rise, not even the slightest,” he said.

The Government continues to take coordinated action through the committee to address potential supply disruptions and ensure the continued availability of essential goods.
