The Maldives has welcomed the announcement of a temporary ceasefire between Iran and the United States, expressing optimism that the move will help reduce tensions in the region.

In a statement, the Government said the agreement creates an opening for dialogue to take precedence, noting the importance of continued diplomatic engagement in working towards a lasting resolution.

The Maldives also recognised the role played by Pakistan, along with other stakeholders, in supporting the diplomatic process that led to the ceasefire.

Reaffirming its position, the government stated its support for broader international efforts aimed at maintaining peace and stability, while highlighting the need to safeguard civilians and ensure uninterrupted maritime navigation critical to global trade.
