Bangladeshi expatriates key to Maldives’ development: Minister Dr Khaleel

Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Abdulla Khaleel has stated that Bangladeshi expatriates living in the Maldives play a significant role in the country’s development, highlighting their contribution across key sectors of the economy.
The minister made the remarks while attending a reception hosted by the High Commissioner of Bangladesh to the Maldives to celebrate the 55th Independence and National Day of Bangladesh, where he conveyed congratulations to the Government and people of Bangladesh on the occasion.
Speaking at the event, the minister noted that the Maldives and Bangladesh share a longstanding partnership built on mutual respect, strong people-to-people ties and cooperation across various sectors. He added that the relationship continues to strengthen through collaboration aimed at shared progress and resilience.
The minister also reflected on Bangladesh’s progress since gaining independence in 1971, noting its growing presence at regional and international levels. He further highlighted cooperation between the two countries in areas such as trade, education, health and human resource development.
Emphasising the importance of the Bangladeshi community in the Maldives, the minister said the government remains committed to ensuring their welfare and rights, while expressing confidence that bilateral relations will continue to deepen in the years ahead.
