Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has introduced a series of cost-cutting measures, including reduced working hours for administrative staff, in response to the economic impact of the ongoing situation in the Middle East.

In a statement, MPL said six key measures will take effect from April 7 as part of efforts to manage operational costs while supporting wider Government initiatives.

Under the changes, administrative staff will work from 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., compared to the previous closing time of 3:30 p.m., while operational staff will continue to work shifts not exceeding eight hours per day. The company also announced the suspension of non-essential international travel and overseas training programmes, with meetings and engagements to be conducted online where possible.

MPL further stated that the Maldives Maritime Conference 2026 has been postponed, while additional measures will be implemented to reduce electricity consumption and promote energy-saving practices among staff.

The company assured that the changes will not affect its core services, noting that cargo unloading and clearance operations will continue without disruption.
