A first aid training programme aimed at the tourism sector has been launched in the Maldives.

The Ministry of Tourism and Environment stated that the programme, which commenced at Cyryx College, includes 23 participants in its first batch. The initiative is part of a programme conducted in collaboration with the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the Ministry of Health, and the Ministry of Tourism and Environment.

A total of 130 individuals are expected to be trained in the initial phase. Selected participants from this group will receive further training to become trainers.

Speaking at the launch ceremony, State Minister for Tourism and Environment, Dr Abdulla Niyaz, said the programme will strengthen the capacity of those working in the tourism sector to provide first aid and CPR. He noted that this would contribute to making the Maldives a safer and more secure destination for tourists.

The State Minister further highlighted that timely response during medical emergencies can significantly improve the chances of saving lives.

The training for participants is being conducted by professionals from the Maldives Red Crescent.
