The Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure has eased application requirements for individuals applying for flats under the disability category of the Government’s housing policy.

In a statement, the Ministry said applicants can now submit a copy of the card issued by the National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) as proof of disability status, removing the need for additional documentation. The change was introduced to address difficulties faced by applicants during the submission process.

Applications for flats under the family housing programme remain open until the end of this month, including for the category prioritising persons with disabilities.

The Ministry also noted that recent amendments to the regulation have reduced eligibility requirements for persons with disabilities. While the general requirement remains 15 years of continuous residence in the Greater Malé area, applicants under the disability category may qualify with five years of residence. Individuals who have relocated to Malé or frequently travel to access disability-related services are also eligible to apply.
