Over 6,000 eligible to vote in second round of Council and WDC elections

The Elections Commission has announced that 6,093 individuals are eligible to vote in the re-vote of the Local Council elections and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) elections scheduled for this Saturday.

The Commission stated that the second round of voting will be held across five constituencies. These include the election of a member to a women’s reserved seat in Baa Dhonfan Council, and the election of a councillor for the Dhadimagu constituency of Fuvahmulah City, which is also reserved for women.

In addition, the second round of WDC elections will be held to elect a president for the WDC in Haa Alifu Kelaa, along with members for the committees in Haa Dhaalu Neykurendhoo and Laamu Maavah.

The Elections Commission has published the list of polling stations and the voter registry for the second round. Candidates have been given the opportunity to verify and sign the lists between 12:00 pm and 6:00 pm today at the Commission’s Election Centre.

A total of 14 ballot boxes will be placed across the constituencies, including in Malé. Two ballot boxes will be placed in each of Kelaa, Maavah, and the Dhadimagu constituency of Fuvahmulah City, while one ballot box will be placed in each of Neykurendhoo and Dhonfan.

Of the 6,093 eligible voters, 1,729 are registered in Kelaa, 1,056 in Neykurendhoo, 441 in Dhonfan, 1,556 in Maavah, and 1,311 in the Dhadimagu district of Fuvahmulah City.

In Malé, six ballot boxes will be made available for voters registered in these constituencies. Ballot boxes designated for voters from Kelaa and Dhonfan will be located at Thaajuddeen School. Voters from Neykurendhoo and Maavah will be able to cast their ballots at Hiriya School, while voters from Fuvahmulah’s Dhadimagu district will vote at Dharumavantha School.
