The Government has assured that fuel supplies will remain uninterrupted, with three shipments scheduled to arrive this month despite ongoing tensions in the Middle East.
Speaking at a press briefing at the President’s Office, Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises Moosa Zameer said the Government’s priority is to ensure continued availability of fuel across the country.
He noted that 18,000 metric tonnes of diesel and 5,400 metric tonnes of petrol were delivered earlier this month, with a further 25,400 metric tonnes of diesel expected on April 24 and 28,000 metric tonnes of jet fuel on April 28.
Minister Zameer said there are no challenges in securing fuel shipments, adding that supply routes have been adjusted, including sourcing from Singapore, to avoid disruptions.
He stated that while global fuel prices are influenced by international market conditions and remain beyond the Government’s control, efforts are being made to minimise the impact on the domestic market.
The minister added that the Government will continue to support key sectors by maintaining affordable fuel prices, highlighting measures to provide lower-cost fuel to the fisheries sector.
