President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the Government will not pursue any further amendments to the Constitution following the outcome of the recent referendum.

Responding to a question at Monday’s press briefing, the President said that the results of the vote held earlier this month clearly reflected the public’s will regarding constitutional changes. In this regard, he stated that the Government would respect this decision, adding that there are no plans to introduce further amendments to the Constitution going forward.

President Dr Muizzu noted that while constitutional changes are off the table, legal reforms will continue through amendments to existing laws where necessary.

He emphasised that his Administration’s decisions are guided by public opinion and said that previous constitutional amendments were introduced in response to the needs and expectations of the people.

The President added that the Government will continue to work closely with the public and prioritise reforms aimed at addressing key national issues.
