President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the Maldives National Defence Force remains the largest and most capable force in the country in ensuring the safety and security of the Maldivian people.

In a message shared on social media to celebrate the 134th anniversary of MNDF, the President highlighted the institution’s long history, noting that its service over the past 134 years has been shaped by the sacrifices of martyrs and the contributions of personnel who have safeguarded the nation .

He expressed appreciation for the continued service of MNDF personnel, acknowledging their role in protecting the country and maintaining national security, and extended greetings to members of the force and their families on the occasion.

The Maldives National Defence Force traces its origins to April 21, 1892, with the date observed annually as MNDF Day. Activities are held nationwide to celebrate the occasion, including a flag-hoisting ceremony to commence celebrations.

As part of this year’s events, a military parade is scheduled to take place in Malé on May 2, while the official MNDF Day function will be held on May 9 in the presence of the President, during which personnel will be recognised for outstanding service.
