State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) has been contracted to take over utility services in islands across Baa, Lhaviyani and Meemu atolls currently managed by Fenaka Corporation Limited.
The agreement was signed between Deputy Managing Director of Fenaka, Adam Thaufeeq, and Deputy Managing Director of STELCO, Dr Ali Azhar, under arrangements to transfer electricity, water and sewerage services to STELCO.
According to officials, the transition is expected to be completed within 30 days, with STELCO assuming responsibility for service provision across the islands.
Thaufeeq said the move aligns with the Government’s priority of ensuring uninterrupted basic services, expressing confidence that the change will strengthen service delivery and operational management.
Dr Azhar said STELCO will expand and enhance its services in the three atolls following the transfer, adding that the transition is expected to improve efficiency and the overall quality of services provided to residents.
