Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has reported continued growth in its sea-to-air cargo operations, with more than 37 tonnes of cargo handled during April 2026.
According to MPL, the multimodal cargo service processed a total of eight TEUs during the month, reflecting increasing demand for integrated freight solutions that combine sea and air transportation to improve delivery efficiency and supply chain flexibility.
MPL stated that several major international airlines participated in the operations during April, including Emirates, Etihad Airways, Lufthansa and Qatar Airways. The corporation added that Europe continues to remain a key market for cargo distribution, with shipments routed to destinations including Denmark, France, Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom.
The company noted that the growth in sea-to-air cargo movement highlights the increasing importance of reliable and time-sensitive logistics services within the international freight sector. MPL said the service enables cargo transported by sea to be efficiently transferred to air routes for faster global distribution.
MPL further stated that the expansion of sea-to-air operations supports its broader objective of positioning the Maldives as a regional logistics hub by leveraging the country’s strategic geographic location along major international shipping routes.
