Deputy Finance Minister Ahmed Saaid Musthafa --

Deputy Finance Minister Ahmed Saaid Musthafa announced that next year's budget, presented at MVR 56.6 billion, will be the first prepared in line with International Monetary Fund (IMF) principles.

Out of the total, MVR 49.2 billion is allocated to direct expenditure, with revenue expected to reach MVR 39.8 billion, including grants. Reform measures amounting to MVR 11.5 billion are planned, with a projected reduction of MVR 6.6 billion in public spending and an anticipated increase of MVR 4.9 billion in revenue.

In an address at the People's National Congress’ "Rayhithuge Salla," the Deputy Minister explained that significant technical and policy adjustments have been made to enhance the budget’s structure.

Given the need to repay foreign debts, he noted that the Government is focusing on revenue growth from foreign currency sources to minimise the burden on citizens. Additionally, the budget aligns with constitutional and legal requirements for balancing revenue and expenditure forecasts over the current and upcoming fiscal years.
