President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has inaugurated the Maldives' ‘National Development Plan’, a 20-year roadmap aimed at guiding the country towards sustainable development.

Speaking at the launch event, Minister of Housing, Land, and Infrastructure Development, Dr Ali Haidar Ahmed, highlighted the plan's importance as a blueprint for the Maldives' future growth, particularly in housing, land, and infrastructure.

Minister Dr Haidar stressed that broad public participation will be sought in shaping the National Development Plan, as directed by President Dr Muizzu. The Government aims to finalise the plan within a year, and citizens are encouraged to contribute their views and ideas to ensure the plan aligns with the needs and aspirations of Maldivians.

Additionally, the Government plans to introduce a National Development Act to Parliament to give the plan legal authority, facilitating the achievement of key policies, priorities, and goals over the coming decades.

Minister Dr Haidar also announced plans to add a constitutional clause to further strengthen the plan’s role in achieving long-term, sustainable progress. The initiative reflects the Government’s commitment to a prosperous future for all, with the minister underscoring the plan as a pivotal step toward a more developed and resilient Maldives.
