The Minister of State for Higher Education, Labour, and Skills Development, Ahmed Shafeeu, has confirmed that MVR 10 million has been allocated to the National Research Fund.

The fund, established to foster a culture of research in the country, aims to support academic and scientific advancements.

Speaking to local media, State Minister Shafeeu revealed that the National Research Fund has officially been set up, along with the establishment of the National Research Council. The council is tasked with overseeing the fund and ensuring the proper management and allocation of resources.

Currently, efforts are focused on determining specific research areas and developing the necessary guidelines for the fund. The Ministry aims to ensure transparency and accessibility, making the process open to all relevant sectors.

The MVR 10 million allocation for this year marks the first phase of funding, with further contributions expected in the next year’s budget. The Government has confirmed that the same grants will be available next year to support ongoing research efforts.

The National Research Council, which has been appointed to manage the fund, will also play a key role in identifying research areas, establishing selection criteria, and setting standards for fund distribution.
