The Maldives and Azerbaijan have signed two key bilateral agreements in Baku, Azerbaijan.
On the sidelines of the UNFCCC Conference of the Parties, Dr Abdulla Khaleel, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives and Mr Jayhun Bayramov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, signed two bilateral agreements aimed at fostering a closer relationship between the two nations.
Once the first agreement has taken into effect, Maldivians with valid Diplomatic and Official passports can enter, transit through and stay in Azerbaijan for up to ninety days from the date of entry. This agreement, aimed at streamlining movement between the two countries, marks a significant step towards achieving visa exemption for all Maldivians.
The second agreement, which acknowledges the vital role tourism plays in enhancing the economic, cultural and social aspect of both countries, focuses on mutual tourism development.
During their meeting, Minister Dr Khaleel highlighted the strong friendship between Maldives and Azerbaijan, emphasising that the signing of these agreements will further strengthen the existing bilateral relations between the two countries.
