Maldives partners with Mumbai Indians to boost tourism in 2025

The Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) has announced an official partnership with Mumbai Indians, India’s most successful and esteemed cricket franchise.
As part of this collaboration, the Maldives has been designated as the Official Tourist Destination Partner for the 2025 season.
This collaboration represents a significant milestone as it marks the first such initiative for Visit Maldives in India, reaffirming the nation’s commitment to enhancing its presence in one of its most vital source markets.
Cricket, as the second most-watched sport globally, attracts an audience with considerable disposable income, making this partnership a strategic endeavour to elevate the Maldives' appeal among both Indian and international travellers.
Mumbai Indians, having secured five championship titles, hold the distinction of being India’s most accomplished and valuable cricket franchise. Given India’s prominence as a key tourism market for the Maldives, this collaboration is anticipated to contribute to increased visitor arrivals, heightened brand visibility, and widespread engagement across multiple Indian cities. MMPRC has established an ambitious target of welcoming 200,000 Indian tourists in 2025, with this partnership playing an instrumental role in achieving that objective.
As part of the agreement, Visit Maldives will implement a series of targeted promotional campaigns in collaboration with Mumbai Indians. These initiatives will include digital marketing efforts to engage cricket enthusiasts and prospective travellers, on-ground activations to reinforce brand recognition, and exclusive experiential promotions showcasing the Maldives as a premier luxury destination. Through these strategic activities, audiences will have the opportunity to discover the Maldives’ renowned pristine beaches, world-class resorts, and exceptional hospitality.
Ibrahim Shiuree, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of MMPRC, described the partnership as a landmark moment for Maldivian tourism. He emphasised that cricket holds deep cultural significance in India, the Maldives, and beyond, and expressed confidence that aligning with one of India’s most iconic cricket teams would encourage more Indian travellers to choose the Maldives as their preferred holiday destination.
A spokesperson for Mumbai Indians also welcomed the collaboration, highlighting the shared value of creating memorable experiences and affirming the franchise’s enthusiasm for showcasing the Maldives to its global fanbase.
