Eid dawns on Muslim nations across the world with echoes of Takbeer from mosques and homes. Eid prayer congregations give way to a universally cherished tradition among all Muslims – the Eid Salaam. As people shake hands and embrace each other, they offer greetings such as ‘Eid Mubarak’ or تَقَبَّلَ اللهُ مِنَّا وَمِنْكُمْ – (May Allah accept from us and from you).

The Eid Salaam extends beyond words; it is a bridge between hearts, a gesture that carries generations of love, faith, and tradition. It symbolises goodwill among family, friends, and the wider community.

In the Maldives, the tradition of Eid Salaam, passed from generation to generation, carries the warmth of childhood memories, the wisdom of elders, and the unspoken gratitute of hearts that have fasted, prayed, and broken bread together. It brings together people from the community as they visit relatives, neighbours, and gather for communal Eid Salaam, tying society together in the festive spirit.

For the younger generations growing up in an increasingly digitalised world, Eid Salaam extends beyond the physical greeting. It is also exchange through text messages, phone calls, and social media posts, offering a sense of togetherness across vast physical distances.

Regardless of the form it takes, Eid Salaam remains a powerful expression of unity, reminding Muslims across the world of the core Islamic principles that guide compassion, gratitude, and sense of community.
