Education Minister Dr Ismail Shafeeu has stated that top priority for the education sector next year will be professional development of teachers.

Speaking at PSM news, the Minister stated that ‘Education Centres for Excellence’ will be established nationwide to support the development of teachers and principals.

He also announced that work is underway on a new system to replace MEMIS, which currently manages students' educational records. This new system will enable the Ministry to better handle the necessary information on students and teachers and enhance the management of student records.

Moreover, the Ministry will prioritise enhancing education sector management and the digitisation of student textbooks.

A total of MVR 6.1 billion has been allocated to the education sector in the upcoming year's budget.
