The Foreign Relations Committee has approved Fuad Thaufeeq's appointment as the Maldivian Ambassador to Thailand with a majority of nine members.

Under the Foreign Service Act, ambassadors are appointed by the President with Parliament's approval.

The Committee highlighted Fuad's extensive experience and distinguished service to the state in its endorsement.

Fuad's career with the Elections Commission (EC) spans multiple terms. He first joined as a member in 2008 before being appointed Chairman in September 2009, a position he held until his resignation in March 2014. After a hiatus, he returned to the Commission in November 2019 and was subsequently elected for a second term in 2021.

As one of the longest-serving members of the EC, Fuad played a pivotal role during the Maldives' historic transition to democracy, particularly in overseeing the nation's first multi-party presidential election.
