Villa College has unveiled the country's first psychology 'brain lab' called 'We Waves – Brain and Behavior Lab', marking a significant leap forward in the nation's mental healthcare treatment capabilities.

Dr Aafiya Ali, Principal Clinical Psychologist at the National Centre for Mental Health, who inaugurated the facility during the college's Psychology Symposium, emphasised how modern technology will transform patient care.

The lab's advanced EEG equipment will allow practitioners to monitor brain activity in real time, potentially revolutionising treatment approaches for a range of conditions including depression, anxiety, autism, ADHD, Alzheimer's and dementia.

This facility represents more than just a new laboratory – it is the first time a Maldivian higher education institution has established dedicated neuroscience research capabilities, potentially opening new doors for both student training and clinical research in the country.
