The Maldives has donated USD 100,000 (MVR 1.5 million) to the Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) for humanitarian aid to the residents of Gaza.
The generous contribution comes from the Zakat Fund, managed by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs in the Maldives, and is part of the country’s ongoing commitment to providing assistance to those in need during times of crisis.
The donation was formalised through an agreement signed by Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, the Minister of Islamic Affairs, and Faisal Mohamed Al-Emadi, Secretary General of QRCS.
The funds will be disbursed in two instalments, with the primary objective of supporting QRCS’s project to supply clean drinking water to the people of Gaza, a critical need in the region.
This donation is part of the broader efforts of the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, which has previously stated that the Zakat Fund will also be used to provide food aid to Gaza, addressing multiple urgent humanitarian needs, implemented under the guidance of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, who has emphasised the importance of international solidarity in times of crisis.
The Zakat Fund, which is part of the Maldives’ broader charitable framework, aims not only to provide immediate relief but also to foster long-term social welfare through its social programmes.
This donation underscores the Maldives’ ongoing commitment to humanitarian causes and highlights the significance of international cooperation in providing aid to those facing hardship in Gaza.
