The President's Office has officially opened applications for the vacant positions on the Elections Commission of the Maldives.

Currently, two out of the five positions are unfilled following the recent removal of two members by Parliament.

The application process will remain open until 12:00 PM on December 5, 2024, with submissions accepted on working days between 08:30 AM and 12:00 PM, excluding official holidays.

Application forms are available at the President’s Office reception or can be downloaded from the official website.

The Elections Commission, which now has only two members, has also been restructured following recent amendments to the Elections Commission Act. Under the new changes, the President and Vice President of the Commission will be appointed by the President from among the existing members, replacing the previous system where these roles were elected internally. These appointments will require approval by a majority vote in Parliament.

The amendments, which have been published in the Government Gazette, also include a formal resignation procedure for the Commission's leadership, ensuring more clarity and continuity in the Commission’s operations. These reforms aim to streamline governance and ensure the Commission's adaptability to the Maldives' evolving political landscape.
