Parliament has approved Ahmed Magsoom as a member of the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM).

The decision was made at an extraordinary sitting held on Wednesday, where Magsoom’s nomination received 58 votes in favour.

Alongside Magsoom, Ameera Naeem and Uz Fathimath Nafath Abdul Wahhab were also nominated. Their names had been announced in Parliament last week and referred to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Human Rights and Gender for review.

The terms of two current members of the HRCM are set to expire on 8 September 2025. Members of the Commission are appointed for a five-year term. Candidates are nominated publicly and must be approved by Parliament before being formally appointed by the President.
