On the occasion of Victory Day, Defence Minister Mohamed Ghassan Maumoon conveyed heartfelt greetings to the nation in a message shared on social media platform X. Minister Ghassan extended his greetings to President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, the Maldivian armed forces, and the public, reflecting on the significance of this day in Maldivian history.

Victory Day, observed annually on November 3, commemorates the resilience of the Maldivian people and the sacrifices made to defend the country during the attempted coup of 1988.

The day stands as a tribute to the 19 Maldivians — including eight soldiers and 11 civilians — who lost their lives in the attack, honouring their bravery and the nation’s collective determination to protect its sovereignty.
