President Dr Mohamed Muizzu will hold his first press conference of 2026 on Monday, 2 March, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. The announcement was made by the Chief Spokesperson at the President’s Office, Heena Waleed, in a post on X.
The briefing marks the commencement of weekly media updates by the President, who previously announced that he would meet journalists every Monday to provide direct updates on the Government’s work, except on days affected by official travel or public holidays.
In his Presidential Address 2026, the President reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to ensuring timely and accurate information is shared with the public. He noted that ministers engaged with local and international media outlets on 424 occasions last year, while heads of ministries communicated key information through the media 493 times.
A total of 1,341 Right to Information (RTI) requests were submitted to the President’s Office and Government ministries in 2025, of which 1,251 were answered, reflecting a response rate of 93 per cent. The remaining requests, pending due to approved extensions, are to be addressed.
The President also stated that 40,875 social media posts were published last year to inform the public of Government activities and initiatives.
As announced during the Presidential Address 2026, the weekly press conferences by the Cabinet Ministers have also begun, with the first one held on Sunday by the Ministry of Tourism and Environment.
