BroadCom and EC membership nominations sent to Parliament

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has formally submitted names to the Parliament for appointments to the Broadcasting Commission and the Election Commission. 

The nominations come as part of efforts to address vacancies in the key autonomous bodies.

In the case of the Broadcasting Commission, President Dr Muizzu forwarded 12 candidates following the expiration of terms for President of the Broadcasting Commision, Mariyam Waheeda and member Ali Yusuf. The nominees have been prioritised based on their applications. The list includes:

  1. Mohamed Abdulla
  2. Ibrahim Muaz Ali
  3. Ibrahim Ashraf
  4. Lieutenant Colonel Retired, Zubair Ahmed Manik
  5. Abdullah Hameed
  6. Aishath Dhiyana Thohir
  7. Aminath Saraahath Izzath
  8. Shimla Ahmed
  9. Ismail Shafeeq
  10. Shifza Musthafa
  11. Ali Nishan
  12. Mohammed Shameem

For the Election Commission, the President has submitted two names to address the vacancies left by the removal of Vice President Ali Nashath and commission member Mohamed Asif. The nominees for these posts are Mohamed Zahid and Abdul Rahman Solah Rasheed.

Appointments to autonomous commissions are conducted in accordance with established procedures, requiring the President to submit names to the Parliament following a public announcement. Parliament will now review the nominees before confirming appointments.
