The Islamic University of Maldives has announced that construction of the Sanabil building in Hulhumalé is progressing rapidly, with the project targeted for completion and opening in September.
In a post on social media, the university confirmed concrete works on the building have reached approximately 95–96 per cent completion, with overall project progress standing at around 60 per cent. University officials said that once structural works are completed, finishing works including installation of elevators and interior detailing will commence.
The development, located in the Hulhumalé Central Park area, marks the first dedicated building for the University since its establishment in 2004. The project is designed as a mixed-use facility, incorporating office spaces, a food court, meeting rooms, an auditorium and commercial parking.
Additionally, the project is being developed under an Islamic finance model using Sukuk, with the Islamic banking arm of the Bank of Maldives among the key investors. The project was awarded to Oak Development Pvt Ltd in August 2022, following land allocation in 2019.
