EC prints 6,172 ballot papers for second round of elections

The Elections Commission has printed 6,172 ballot papers for the second round of Local Council and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) elections scheduled for Saturday.

The Commission said the ballot papers were printed by Novelty Printers and Publishers Pvt Ltd, which also handled printing for the first round, where a total of 888,845 ballot papers were produced.

Voting in the second round will be held to fill two seats in island councils and three seats in Women’s Development Committees across three islands.

Of the total ballot papers printed, 1,784 are for council elections, while 4,388 are for WDC elections.

These are:

  • Baa Dhonfanu Council: 460 ballot papers
  • Fuvahmulah City (Dhadimagu constituency) Council: 1,324 ballot papers
  • Haa Alifu Kelaa WDC: 1,742 ballot papers
  • Haa Dhaalu Neykurendhoo WDC: 1,069 ballot papers
  • Laamu Maavah WDC: 1,577 ballot papers

The Commission stated that 14 ballot boxes will be set up for the second round, including in the respective constituencies and in Malé.

Two voting stations will be established in Kelaa, Maavah, and Fuvahmulah City, while one station each will be set up in Neykurendhoo and Dhonfanu.

In Malé, six voting stations will be arranged to accommodate voters from these constituencies. Ballot boxes for Kelaa and Dhonfanu will be placed at Thaajuddeen School, those for Neykurendhoo and Maavah at Hiriya School, and Fuvahmulah City ballots at Dharumavantha School.

A total of 6,093 voters have registered for the second round. This includes 1,729 voters in Kelaa, 1,056 in Neykurendhoo, 441 in Dhonfanu, 1,556 in Maavah, and 1,311 in Fuvahmulah City.
