Two women have been arrested at Velana International Airport after being found in possession of a large quantity of drugs.

Maldives Police Service identified the suspects as Alya Sharsa Naseer, 25, of Malé, and Aminath Roona, 29, of K. Thulusdhoo. They were taken into custody on Friday night.

Authorities said the drugs seized weighed approximately 1.8 kilograms. Both women have been remanded in custody for 15 days.

The suspects are being investigated on charges including drug smuggling, possession, use, and trafficking.
