President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has called on the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) to begin preparations for its party congress scheduled to be held later this year.

Speaking at a ceremony in Rasdhoo marking the party’s recent victory in the local council election, the President said the congress aims to strengthen internal democracy and improve the party’s organisational structure.

He stated that the party leadership has decided to hold the congress in October, describing it as a key opportunity to reinforce democratic principles within the party and ensure effective governance.

The President emphasised the importance of electing capable individuals to party positions, urging members across the islands to nominate candidates who prioritise the interests of their communities and the country as a whole.

He also highlighted the need for a strong and well-functioning party system, noting that strengthening political parties is essential for the effective operation of a multi-party democracy.

President Dr Muizzu added that these efforts would help the party build unity, prepare for future elections, and field strong candidates for both presidential and parliamentary polls.
