Minister of Education, Higher Education and Skills Development Dr Ismail Shafeeu has stated that the goal is to complete and open the Sahthavee Bina monument of Majeediyya School in time for the school’s 100th anniversary next year.

The Minister made the remarks while addressing a special assembly held at the school today to mark its 99th anniversary.

He said construction of the building is already underway, with plans to develop it on the western side of the school by utilising the current parking area. The project is intended as a landmark to commemorate the school’s centenary. Minister Dr Shafeeu added that efforts will be made collectively to complete and officially open the building in time for the 100-year milestone, describing it as an important step towards advancing education into a new technological era.

The Minister noted that in the past, significant emphasis had been placed on academic subjects and achieving strong results. However, he stressed the need to now place greater focus on equipping students with practical skills and knowledge required for life.

He also highlighted that Majeediyya School, which began with just 60 students, has a proud history of achievements and there is no reason why such success cannot continue into the future.

During the event, the school also launched its new website and YouTube channel.

The Ministry of Education has planned a series of activities to mark the school’s 100th anniversary.

Majeediyya School is one of the oldest educational institutions in the Maldives. The Sahthavee Bina monument is envisioned as a symbol of the school’s academic legacy, with much of the effort behind the project driven by its alumni.
