National airline Maldivian has announced that it operated 26 flights for Hajj and Umrah pilgrims over the past year, serving a total of 6,073 passengers.

The airline noted that the flights were operated between May last year and May this year to transport pilgrims travelling for Hajj and Umrah. A total of 6,073 passengers were served through the 26 flights operated during the period.

Maldivian signed an agreement in February last year with Maldives Hajj Corporation and Island Aviation to transport Maldivian pilgrims on the airline’s Airbus A330 aircraft.

This year, a total of 1,019 pilgrims from the Maldives travelled to perform Hajj. Two flights operated by the national airline were used to transport the pilgrims to Makkah.

The Hajj Corporation had earlier stated that Maldivian pilgrims would spend 22 days in Saudi Arabia during this year’s pilgrimage. Following the completion of Hajj, pilgrims are scheduled to begin returning to the Maldives from the 5th of next month.
