Sewerage works have been completed in three active segments of the Boduthakurufaanu Magu redevelopment project, with overall progress reaching 75 per cent, according to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).
Boduthakurufaanu Magu is being developed in five segments under the first phase of the project. The first segment, stretching from the Local Market area to the Izzuddin Jetty, has already been completed, while construction is currently underway on Segments 2, 3 and 4. MTCC said sewer upgrade works in these three segments have now been completed.
The company said utility-related works, including the installation of electricity, water and telecommunications infrastructure, are continuing alongside sidewalk construction, cable trenching, kerbstone installation, catchpit works, panel works and anchor block construction. Drainage system works are also progressing.
According to MTCC, more than 130 metres of quay wall capping concrete is scheduled to be completed this week, bringing overall progress across the three segments to 75 per cent. Work on the stormwater pump station is also advancing, with the remaining pump well construction targeted for completion by this month.
The Boduthakurufaanu Magu redevelopment project covers the area from the Local Market to the Henveiru Ferry Terminal. Upon completion, the project will include a parking facility with capacity for more than 500 motorcycles in front of the Bank of Ceylon. An area measuring 98 metres in length and 28 metres in width was reclaimed from the harbour as part of the development, while trees removed during construction have been replanted to enhance greenery along the road corridor.
