The Elections Commission (EC) has completed preparations for the North Hithadhoo parliamentary by-election scheduled for June 6, with more than 4,100 voters eligible to cast their ballots.

Speaking to MMTV, Elections Commission Vice President Abdul Rahman Salah Rasheed said all arrangements required for the by-election have been finalised. He noted that candidates signed the final voter register at the Elections Centre on Wednesday morning.

A total of 4,121 people are eligible to vote in the by-election, while the commission has printed 4,154 ballot papers for polling day.

Seven ballot boxes will be used for the election, including two in Malé for voters registered in the North Hithadhoo constituency who reside in the capital and five in Addu City. Polling in Malé will take place at the south building of Dharumavantha School, while voters in Addu City will cast their ballots at Hithadhoo School.

The final voter register for the by-election will be published in the Government Gazette and on the Elections Commission's website.

The by-election will be contested by candidates from the country's two main political parties. Former Meedhoo Council member Ahmed Saeed is contesting on behalf of the People's National Congress (PNC) and was assigned candidate number one, while former Addu City Mayor Abdulla Sadiq, representing the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), received candidate number two.

Voting for the North Hithadhoo by-election will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on June 6.
