Managing Director of Aasandha Company Limited, Aminath Zeeniya, has said that the ongoing digitisation of the national health insurance system is expected to significantly improve and accelerate service delivery compared to current processes.
Speaking to State media, Zeeniya said delays in the current system are largely due to a high volume of manual processing, which requires considerable administrative time. She explained that the handling of physical forms and manual record-keeping continues to slow down workflows, but noted that full digitisation would greatly improve efficiency.
Zeeniya said the Government has recently transferred several key social welfare services from the National Social Protection Agency to Aasandha, in an effort to consolidate healthcare and welfare services under a single system.
She added that the introduction of the “My Aasandha Portal”, which uses eFaas authentication, now allows patients and authorised representatives to submit forms and access medical services online. The portal also provides access to medical assistance programmes managed by various state agencies.
Zeeniya stated that the reforms are intended to strengthen the national medical assistance framework, improve institutional efficiency, and reduce opportunities for system misuse. She further noted that Aasandha expenditure has continued to rise annually, driven by the increasing cost of imported medicines and long-term treatment for chronic illnesses.
