Mohamed Shaheen ---

A Maldivian information technology professional has been appointed to oversee technology operations at several venues of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, including the stadium scheduled to host the tournament's final match.

Mohamed Shaheen, a Maldivian IT expert based in New York, has been appointed as Lead Venue Technology Manager for a number of World Cup stadiums. The role places him in charge of ensuring the technology infrastructure required for the smooth operation of matches is properly designed, tested and operational throughout the tournament.

Shaheen is the founder of Wit Solutions, a company specialising in cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity, enterprise networking and IT operations. According to Shaheen, the opportunity arose after FIFA World Cup organisers contacted his company regarding venue technology management services. Speaking to Fiyes, he said he initially believed the email was spam before later confirming its authenticity.

His responsibilities include technology design, system integration, operational readiness testing and planning for venue-level challenges. He will also oversee the deployment and performance of critical technology systems used for stadium operations, communications, broadcasting, access control and match-day activities.

Shaheen said the success of his role would ultimately be measured by the ability of all systems to function seamlessly without disruption during matches. The technology infrastructure supports a wide range of operations, from spectator access and communications networks to systems used by officials and broadcasters.

His appointment to one of the world's largest sporting events highlights the growing presence of Maldivians in specialised technology fields and reflects expanding opportunities for professionals from the Maldives in the global digital and technology sector.
