The Government is preparing a nationwide programme to organise Eid celebrations in Malé and across the atolls from next year, Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has said.

In a statement shared, minister Dr Shaheem said a comprehensive plan is being developed to organise Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha celebrations beginning from the year 1448 Hijri. He said the initiative aims to ensure coordinated celebrations throughout the country.

The minister sad a special committee established by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs has already begun work on the project. The committee is tasked with developing a framework for Eid celebrations in both the capital and the islands.

Minister Dr Shaheem said the programme will be implemented in consultation with island councils and will also involve civil society organisations operating in the atolls. He noted that community participation would be an important component of the initiative.

The minister added that special events are planned for cities and islands as part of the celebrations, with preparations being carried out in collaboration with the Ministry of Arts, Culture and Heritage
