Tourist arrivals to the Maldives have surpassed 955,000 so far this year, reaching a total of 955,296 visitors as of 3 June.

Statistics released by the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation show that arrivals remain slightly below last year's levels. During the same period in 2025, the Maldives recorded 966,585 tourist arrivals, representing a decline of 1.2 per cent this year.

The decline follows weaker arrival figures recorded during March and April amid disruptions linked to tensions in the Middle East. Tourist arrivals fell by 20.5 per cent in March and 24.4 per cent in April compared to the corresponding periods last year. However, the market showed signs of recovery in May, with arrivals increasing by 1.7 per cent. Arrivals recorded during the first three days of June remain 16.9 per cent lower than the same period in 2025.

China continues to be the Maldives' largest source market, contributing 145,702 visitors so far this year. Russia ranks second with 127,460 arrivals, while the United Kingdom is third with 80,811 visitors. The top three source markets remain unchanged from last year.

Velana International Airport accounted for the vast majority of tourist arrivals, handling 97.2 per cent of all visitors entering the country. Gan International Airport received 0.4 per cent of arrivals, while Maafaru International Airport accounted for 0.3 per cent.

While arrivals remain slightly below last year's levels, recent figures indicate signs of improvement following declines recorded earlier in the year.
