Bank of Maldives (BML) has clarified that subscription payments for commonly used digital services are not affected by the bank's recently introduced limits on e-commerce transactions.
In a post shared on social media, BML stated that subscription payments are not included under the daily foreign spending limit and are therefore not restricted by the transaction cap. The bank also acknowledged that a small number of customers had experienced issues with subscription payments and said such cases would be addressed as quickly as possible once reported.
BML urged customers experiencing difficulties with subscription renewals or payments to contact the bank so appropriate action can be taken without delay.
The clarification comes as the bank continues to expand the amount of foreign currency made available to both businesses and individuals. Figures released by BML show that the bank sold USD 198 million for debit and credit card transactions during the first five months of this year.
The bank also revealed that it sold USD 69 million more than it purchased during the same period.
Meanwhile, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that discussions with BML indicate significant easing of the current foreign transaction limits on bank cards by the end of this month.
