A section of Boduthakurufaanu Magu will be closed from Saturday as asphalt works begin under the ongoing redevelopment project on the northern side of Malé City.

According to Maldives Police Service, the closure will be in effect daily from 12:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. until completion of the asphalt works. The affected section stretches from Izzuddin Jetty to Henveiru Ferry Terminal, with traffic diverted through alternative routes during the closure period.

The Boduthakurufaanu Magu redevelopment project is currently progressing with fo sub-base preparation works following the completion of sewerage system upgrades. Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has stated that 52 per cent of works related to utility corridors, water pipeline installation and curbstone construction have been completed.

MTCC said new water and sewerage connections are expected to be completed within the coming week, while the stormwater pump station is scheduled for completion by mid-June. The company also noted that capping concrete works are set to begin this week as construction progresses.

The redevelopment project is also expected to incorporate environmental enhancements. President Dr Mohamed Muizzu recently announced plans to establish a green belt along Boduthakurufaanu Magu as part of efforts to increase greenery and improve the appearance of the area.
