The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has revealed that the Coast Guard carried out 84 medical evacuations across the country during the past week, transporting patients in need of urgent medical care between islands and healthcare facilities.
According to MNDF, the majority of the evacuations were conducted by the Coast Guard's First Squadron, which completed 54 medical evacuations during the week. The Second Squadron carried out 10 evacuations, while the Third Squadron completed 16 and the Fourth Squadron conducted four.
Medical evacuation services are regularly provided by the Coast Guard to assist patients requiring urgent treatment that is unavailable on their home islands. The service plays a key role in ensuring timely access to healthcare for residents of islands across the Maldives.
The Coast Guard continues to conduct medical evacuation operations nationwide as part of its support for emergency healthcare services and patient transport needs.
