Member of Parliament for Inguraidhoo constituency and Parliamentary Group Leader of the People’s National Congress (PNC), Ibrahim Falah, has said the results of the North Hithadhoo parliamentary by-election demonstrate continued support for President Dr Mohamed Muizzu in Addu City.
In a post shared on social media following Saturday's by-election, Falah said the outcome had challenged claims that the North Hithadhoo constituency remained a stronghold of the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).
He also criticised senior figures from opposition parties who backed the opposition candidate, saying the result showed a decline in their influence within the constituency.
Falah said the by-election result reflected strong support for President Dr Muizzu and his policies among voters in Addu City. He noted that the PNC candidate secured victories in four of the seven ballot boxes used in the election and expressed confidence that Addu City would become a stronghold for the party in future elections.
According to provisional results released by the Elections Commission, opposition candidate Abdulla Sodhiq won the North Hithadhoo seat with 1,375 votes, while PNC candidate Ahmed Saeed received 1,313 votes.
