A police officer who was part of an operation has been found dead after being reported missing during the operation.

Maldives Police Service stated that the officer was among a team stationed on Police Launch 57 during the operation conducted on Saturday night. Police said the officer was reported missing during the operation, prompting an immediate search. He was later found underwater and brought ashore.

The officer's body was transferred to Mathiveri Health Centre, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police also said that support is being provided to the officer's family and colleagues following the incident, while an investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances surrounding the death.
