China has reaffirmed its support for the development of the Maldives' health and social sectors during a meeting between Minister of Health, Family and Welfare Geela Ali and Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives Kong Xianhua.

The Health Ministry stated that discussions focused on ongoing cooperation between the two countries and opportunities to further strengthen collaboration in the health and social sectors. The ambassador assured continued Chinese assistance for sector development and highlighted the China-Maldives Friendship Hospital project in Villimalé as an initiative that would contribute to closer bilateral ties.

The meeting also explored opportunities for training and capacity-building for personnel working in the sector.

Minister Geela noted that China remains one of the Maldives' key development partners and expressed appreciation for the support provided by the Chinese government to the country's development efforts.
