The Maldives and Japan have discussed opportunities to further strengthen bilateral relations as the two countries prepare to mark 60 years of diplomatic relations next year.
The discussions took place during a courtesy call by Japanese Ambassador to the Maldives Ishigami Rumiko on Vice President Uz Hussain Mohamed Latheef at the President's Office.
During the meeting, both sides reaffirmed the longstanding friendship and cooperation between the Maldives and Japan and explored ways to deepen collaboration across a range of sectors. The Vice President expressed appreciation for Japan's continued support to the Maldives, particularly in human resource development, infrastructure, education, sports, climate resilience, disaster management and community development.
The discussions also focused on growing people-to-people exchanges between the two countries, as well as opportunities to expand tourism and economic cooperation.
The Maldives and Japan established diplomatic relations in 1967 and are set to commemorate the 60th anniversary of bilateral ties next year.
