Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company Limited (MIFCO) has disbursed more than MVR 250,000 to 11 fishing vessels for fish purchased by the company last Wednesday.

Figures released by MIFCO show that a total of MVR 254,880 was paid to the vessels. Of this amount, MVR 229,325 was paid to 10 vessels for skipjack tuna deliveries.

In addition, MVR 280 was paid for yellowfin tuna weighing more than 10 kilograms supplied by one vessel, while MVR 25,275 was disbursed to four vessels for yellowfin tuna weighing over 15 kilograms.

MIFCO also continued fish purchases through several of its collection centres on Thursday as part of its ongoing procurement operations.

Under the company's current pricing structure, skipjack tuna is purchased at MVR 20 per kilogram. Yellowfin tuna weighing between 10 and 15 kilograms is also purchased at MVR 20 per kilogram, while yellowfin tuna weighing more than 15 kilograms is bought at MVR 25 per kilogram.

MIFCO increased the purchase price of skipjack tuna to MVR 20 per kilogram this week in response to changes in supply and demand during the ongoing low fishing season.
